Jazz at NMS accepts only the top 23 high school jazz musicians in the Chicago region. Students engage with top-tier faculty and peers to develop their skills to a higher level.

Committing to weekly rehearsals and classes on Sunday and Tuesday afternoons/evenings, students receive training in jazz repertoire, collaboration, theory, and improvisation.

The cost of our program is $2,000 for the year. This includes all administrative costs, 28 weeks of instruction, and all performances. Tour costs are not included.

Educational excellence

Backed by our faculty of world-class jazz performers, we push students to the limits of their abilities and gives them the opportunity to grow into the next generation of jazz musicians.

Students will participate in classes on jazz theory and improvisation as well as play as part of a big band and one of two jazz combos.

Jazz at NMS was designed to provide not only a competitive and well-rounded jazz education, but to give students the opportunity to perform as often as possible. Performance opportunities include gigs at jazz clubs, music festivals, and tours.
