Norman Palm

Norman Palm, trombonist, was born and raised in Chicago, IL. Norman got his start playing the trombone when he was 10 years old.

During Norman’s high school career, he participated in Gallery 37, Ravinia in the Schools program, and he was a member of The Grammy Jazz Band. He was also mentored by Willie Pickens (World Renowned Chicago bebop pianist), Ernest Dawkins (celebrated Chicago saxophonist), and Ken Chaney (celebrated and legendary Chicago jazz pianist and educator).

After graduating from Curie High School, Norman enrolled at Roosevelt University where he was a student at Roosevelt University’s music school the Chicago College of Performing Arts. His trombone teachers during his tenure at Roosevelt were Mayo Tiana, Tom Garling, and Steve Berry. As a collegiate trombonist, he shared the stage with Bobby Shew, Bob Mintzer, Henry Johnson, Paul Wertico, and many others.

Professionally, Norman has worked with many critically acclaimed Chicago musicians as well as internationally known luminaries such as Von Freeman, Kurt Elling, Willie Pickens, Ken Chaney, Ari Brown, Baabe Irving, Ernest Dawkins, Greg Ward, Orbert Davis, Ron Haynes, Rajiv Halim, Jimmy Health, Slide Hampton, Wynton Marsalis, Jon Faddis, James Moody, and Wallace Roney, as well as the likes of popular acts such as The Temptations, The O Jays, and Aretha Franklin.

In addition to working with many of these luminaries, Norman has toured the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Europe with Chicago blues guitarist/singer Ronnie Baker Brooks, who is the son of the legendary Chicago blues guitarist/singer Lonnie Brooks. He has also toured internationally with Ernest Dawkins in Europe.

Besides being a trombonist, Norman is a member of the legendary Chicago 50’s Doo-Wop group The Eldorados with his father Norman Palm Sr. where he sings and serves as the vocal arranger for the group. He has toured around the U.S. with The Eldorados as well as made a PBS appearance with the singing group on the PBS special, “Doo-Wop 51”.

Currently, Norman is a member of the Rajiv Halim Quintet, the Ron Haynes Game Changers (Jazz/Funk group), and Greg Ward & 10 Tongues.
